A Look Into My Upcoming Horror Fiction Writing Course
A Look Into My Upcoming Horror Fiction Writing Course
Well, it's been a while since I had a full update regarding my horror writing course. I've hinted at its contents on my social media, and I've chatted a bit about how the course will function from an educational perspective, but it's about time I shared a little sneak peek into the actual course, hm?
One of a range of lessons in the 'History and Evolution of Horror Storytelling' module. |
What you see in the screenshot above is the general layout of the course. Off to the left, you have the modules and lessons, and on the top right corner there's a button to let you continue on after you've completed a lesson.
There's also a Comments section, which I provide in certain lessons to promote discussion among fellow writers about a range of intriguing topics.
The course is mainly text-based, with images to support the text visually, and every now and then, there are some videos sprinkled throughout as examples of techniques or concepts that we discuss in the lessons. I'm currently looking into making some videos of my own to add to certain lessons in the course, where I feel they might be needed.
This module introduces a framework through which you can break down the horror media you consume, analyze it, and maybe even find ways to make it better. |
In each unit there's a space for asking questions if you have any about the content, and as I said above, many lessons have a comments section when relevant - usually as a result of a Discussion Question that has been posed in the lesson.
Sorry! No comments section in the quizzes! 😂 But speaking of quizzes...
There are a total of 15 quizzes in the course, and they tend to come up every few lessons. The quizzes test your understanding of the course material, and you are able to retake quizzes. They include True/False questions, MCQs (multiple choice questions), and MAQs (multiple answer questions). Every question comes with an explanation from the text to reinforce your understanding.
I have to say that lately I've been trying to figure out what my favourite module in the whole course is, and I've had a lot of trouble coming up with just one answer. I find each and every module so fascinating, and I wish that I had all the time in the world to delve into each module and make it a course of its own. Maybe one day I will!
I believe this course gives you a great foundational basis of knowledge and skill that you can apply in your horror story writing directly, and I hope you can use what you learn as a launching pad towards your own writing success.
So... When does it launch?
Ah, the question I dread the most. Thank you for asking.
I mentioned in the last update (August 2024) that the course is slated for a March 2025 release. Well, it's March 2025. I have hopes (nay, perhaps the better term is 'dreams') that I can still make my deadline. But the perfectionist in me has me going through every lesson and considering all the ways in which I can make it better, better, better.
At some point I have to cut myself off. But this is my first ever course that I'm putting out there. I'm extremely proud of myself and the course I've created already, but I want it to be really, really good for all writers. So, I'm allowing my brain to be a little bit of a perfectionist right now.
I'm hoping I can set a launch for the end of March, perhaps in the last week. That being said, there are also some administrative tasks that I want to complete before that happens, and they might take a little longer than expected. Nevertheless, I do have hopes - no, dreams - of still making that launch date.
If you want to be notified when I know the course is coming out for sure, please join my newsletter. I will announce it here, too, of course, but the newsletter will also have a little gift. And who doesn't like gifts?
