Table of Contents

Following up from my last post, here is what you can expect from this blog moving forward, in more detail. The new segments include:

  • Writer's Archive a process archive dedicated to my writing and my creative projects, sharing everything from snippets to reflections.
  • Reading Log a concise reading log where I record my progress and thoughts on a story I am currently reading.
  • Pages From My Journal a place to share more personal updates and thoughts, most often when they can't fit neatly into any of the other categories.
  • Notes on Teaching a place to share observations, challenges, resources, and general thoughts on teaching as I continue my teaching journey.

Each segment is going to have a bit more of a notebook/journal/scrapbook style of aesthetic, with different flares here and there. My hope is that altogether, they will look coherent... Ideally, I'd be able to take all of these posts (or at least my favourites) and put them together to create a nice big PDF (or mayhaps a book?) at the end of each year. I think that'd be nice.

Additionally, there are other segments I would like to include but which I have yet to prepare for - by which I mean I can't figure out how to fold them into the scrapbook/journal aesthetic - including:

  • Developer's Diary where I share updates on interactive fictions, visual novels, or any other development-adjacent projects.
  • Gallery where I share graphics, images, photos, and other pieces (heavy visual element) related to my projects.

These segments should just about cover everything that I want to do with this blog, but you might be thinking: this seems a bit one-way.

What about interacting with other blogs?

Each of these segments can be used to interact with other blogs. For example, if I'm tagged in a writing game, I would make the post for that tag game in the style of Writer's Archive posts.

I do have side-blogs that I have historically used for reblogging other art and writing (@artblrcabinetofwonders and @writeblrcabinetofwonders). I've been meaning to revive them and I think this is a good time for that as well.

I understand that for some this may not be ideal, and as a long-time member of the writeblr community, I can understand that, but my primary focus is my own health and development as both a teacher and a writer. When I started this blog, I was insanely active, but I was less busy then - a student who had a lot more time on her hands. Now, my life looks very different.

In short, I'll still be interacting, reblogging, and boosting the works of others, not just on this blog, but on my two side-blogs as well - just in my own way. However, as with my own posts, I may be a bit slow. Between my highly demanding job, my own personal pursuits, and the range of other potential projects pulling me every which way, it's hard to find the time to sit down and work on my passions, let alone post about them.

Why so many segments and categories?

I'm trying to be more methodical and more professional about my approach to what I honestly feel has developed from a simple hobby to something I take quite seriously. The areas of interest that I share about on this space are all equally important to me. Because of that, I feel it's only right that I give it the respect that it requires: time, effort, and (hopefully) a strong polish.

This also has something to do with self-discipline, and my own personal growth journey. As I approach 30, I'm looking around and realizing that there's a lot I'd like to change about how I approach my work, my personal projects, myself, my surroundings, and my loved ones. Some of these segments - like the reading log, for example - are meant to help me stay on track and disciplined, re-growing my concentration muscles and strengthening my patience.

That wraps up this post. Tomorrow, the first post of the new blog segments will be shared: my first Reading Log, with general thoughts about the first four chapters of Frenchman's Creek by Daphne du Maurier. From there, I'll try to have a new post every 1-3 days. As always, my ask box is open.
