Scareuary 2025 Schedule

It's that time of year... That spooky time of year...

No, it's not October. It's Scareuary! Welcome to the second ever Scareuary, taking place from February 1st - 28th. Here are the weekly events this year, but you can do them anytime during the month.

Coppe's Webbe - Feb. 1st - 7th

A staple in the Scareuary horror writing challenge, the Coppe's Webbe has you randomly generate a word from this list (simply refresh the page to generate) and create a spooky web of stories, snippets, or even poems related to the word you've generated. 

 

COPPE'S WEBBE SCHEDULE

February 1: Generate We'll be generating our words and sharing them! You can also share any preliminary ideas that you have for creepy stories/snippets/etc to write based on those words.

February 2-7: Spin the Web! Having trouble with your word and want a brainstorming buddy? Send your word in as an ask and I'll respond with 5 different spooky ideas to get you started.

February 7: Story Share For those who are going to try and complete a story, drabble, poem, or any other kind of horror fiction piece by the end of this first week, the 7th is the day we'll share them! If you haven't written a full story but have a synopsis, you can share that, too.



Twisted Hearts - Feb. 8th - 14th

How far would you go for love? This theme is all about the dark corners of the heart, where adoration becomes obsession, where trust is eroded by jealousy, and where the person you were begins to disintegrate. 

TWISTED HEARTS SCHEDULE

February 8: Love is Scary In which we discuss the ways in which love and romance can be explored through the lens of horror. Questions and polls will be sent out on this day, as well as a podcast episode.

February 10: The Horror of Gothic Romance In which we take a look at gothic romance as a general whole, and why it is horror. In particular, we'll discuss themes, concepts, and character development.

February 14: Story Share A reading of a 'twisted hearts' story. (Maybe more than one if someone decides to record their own reading of their 'twisted hearts' story?) You can record an audio or a video and share yourself reading your story! ^^



The Maze - Feb. 15th - 21st

Treacherous twists and turns, dubious realities, and the relentless, undeniable fate of meeting one's doom... Let's talk about how we can design the perfect maze for your horror story.

So, what about it? Fancy getting a little lost in a nightmarish labyrinth? 

THE MAZE SCHEDULE

February 15: The Concept of Labyrinth in Horror In which we talk about what the concept of the labyrinth means in horror. What does it stand for? Why do we use it? How is it usually manifested in horror literature?

February 17: Endless Mazes and Labyrinth of Mind In which we discuss the ways in which temporal loops can be understood as labyrinth, and how labyrinth can also be applied to the mind.

February 21: Story Share Did you write a little something with the theme of the maze? Share it! Why not even give a little reading of it? And why not go even farther: Tell us about how you applied the element of the maze, and why.  



M-m-monster! - Feb. 22nd - 28th

Monsters - monsters everywhere. Horror fiction is filled with them. So let's make some of our own. (Can't let old Victor F. have all the fun now, can we?)

If you're looking to begin your career as a monster designer, this is the event for you.

M-M-MONSTER! SCHEDULE

February 22nd: Monster Design 101 In which we discuss the core elements of designing monsters for horror fiction.

February 25th: Creature Feature In which we deconstruct different monsters throughout literature and film, and discuss what makes them scary.

February 28th: Monster Launch Once you've designed your monster, launch it! Share your gruesome creation with your fellow writers in whatever format you prefer. A monster profile page? An audio recording? An advertisement? A doodle? A full illustration? Your choice!

The Beast of Ildenwood 18. Thieves in the Night The Wanderer is a strange one. Shoja cannot help but feel wary of him. There is so little to know of him, so much that is unanswered, and he cannot overlook the simple facts of his arrival. Lahab, who is young, to be a Guardian, but who wears the title well, seems to trust in him almost completely, but Shoja hesitates to do the same.   They are traveling on foot, the three of them, and while Lahab fusses over the artifact, Shoja watches the Wanderer from the corner of his eye. The Fall of the Black Masks is the first installment in my high fantasy series, The Qarran Tales . It's a story packed with action, intrigue, betrayal, friendship, secrets, family, and more.
