A Cure for Happiness - WIP Intro
A Cure for Happiness - WIP Intro
A while back, I introduced my newest project, A Cure for Happiness, over on my tumblr blog. I also completely forgot to introduce it here on my blog! So, here we are, about two weeks later:
After much consideration, I’ve decided that I will not, in fact, be writing for The Beast of Ildenwood for Camp Nano / Writathon. Instead, I will be moving forward with this new fantasy story that I started plotting in March with the hopes that I could use it for the writing challenges!
Yep - that’s the cover, in all of its quickly-sketched glory. 🤣 One
day it will be replaced with something more professional, but right
now, this is the cover for this one-month challenge story.
Blurb:
Down-on-his-luck Brieuc returns to his home village penniless, set to take over his late father’s farm. At first, he feels a sense of relief and contentment at having returned to a place so calm and joyful, but the more time he spends in the village, the more he realizes that something is very, very wrong.
Everyone is happy. Too happy. So happy, they’re dying.
To save his village from this mysterious curse, he explores the castle that looms over the little town, where a new occupant has recently taken up residence…
Plan for the story:
So,
this somewhat traditional fantasy story is going to (hopefully) be a
project that I start and finish with Camp Nano/Writathon. That means
I’ve still got about 33 days to complete this novel. Yay…
Realistically, though, I just want to meet the word count goals, so that’s 55,555 words. If I can meet that in 33 days, then I’m golden. But that means writing about 2,000 words per day, which is pretty significant given all the other stuff I have going on in my daily life. I’ll do my best, which is all I can say.
I’ll link chapters as they drop over on my blog and probably here, too, though I can be really inconsistent so I’ll probably end up making a directory post that I continuously edit. If you’d like to be tagged for this story, let me know!
As of right now, I have 10 chapters planned out - which basically translates to about 10 days’ worth. I’ve got 2 chapters written, to create a total word count of 1,994 words. I’m writing slowly because I want to focus on getting the plot completed before I really delve into writing the story.
ALSO!
I’m going to be really winging the worldbuilding in this one, so there’s going to be a lot of wild stuff that is just going to have to be taken at face-value here (like trees with eyes that follow you around; I’m not gonna explain it, it just is).
There are also a great deal of worldbuilding posts that I've shared on my tumblr blog in response to asks, so I'll be sharing those here as well.
