Tag Game Round-Up #1

Tag Game Round-Up #1

Writers on social media like to play tag games. It's a fun way to get involved with the community, read other writers' works, and share your own. Each tag game has its own rules. Because I enjoy playing these games, I've realized that I've shared quite a lot of snippets, quotes, and excerpts from my WIPs and published works through them, and I thought it would be a good idea to create weekly roundups of tag games and the writing I share for them!

For now, the roundups will be a mix of old and new (I have probably hundreds of old ones to share!). I hope you enjoy reading these little snippets!

Beginnings & Ends #1

Rules: Share the first and last sentences in a scene/chapter/story. [x]

I’m going to share the first and last lines of Chapter 1 of The Pirates of Sissa!

First Line:

The sun was unrelenting as it beat down on the Ramadiyeen standing high on the border walls of the Empire of Sissa, keeping watch over the harsh Black Desert beyond them.

Last Line:

She was not looking forward to her execution.

A little sneak peek into the story’s beginning! Very excited to get back to this at long last after I finish with my research project and am able to move back to writing.

Beginnings & Ends #2

Rules: Share the first and last sentences in a scene/chapter/story. [x]

I’ll start the game off with the beginning and end of Chapter 1 of my horror novel-in-progress An Entity In Your Midst (no worries, nothing scary here!):

Beginning:

The wind raced down the jagged, snow-covered mountains and through the mass of trees surrounding the small town of Kostya, shaking them so that not a single flake of snow remained on their leaves. Winter was always harsh in this region, but Kostya was saved from the brunt of it thanks to the thick forest which surrounded them on almost all sides. Here, in this rural town, they were always fighting against the ravages of nature, always trying to prepare for winter, always trying to make supplies last until the next shipment arrived during the cold months.

End:

Frozen in place with shock, Misha watched his daughter take a rigid step out from the edge of the woods and onto the fresh, powdery snow before her. She wore no shoes, only her pajama and the ribbon in her hair. “Papa,” she croaked, falling to her knees.

Somewhere in the forest, too close from comfort, a wolf howled.

Favorites

Rules: Post your top 3 favorite facts about your top 5 favorite characters. [x]

So, for me, I’m going to stick to The Pirates of Sissa (which I’m supposed to be writing, but, well, you know how it is ^^’). I can’t really pick 5 characters/3 facts that are my absolute favourites, though, so I’ve just picked the first 5 that come into mind and the first 3 facts that I could think of for them…

Sahra:

  1. Her parents owned a restaurant in Ramadi, back before the Qorsan were forcefully and violently expelled from Sissa and into the Black Desert.
  2. Was almost kidnapped by Sissan soldiers as a child during a skirmish in the Black Desert.
  3. Has an understandably short temper when it comes to people disrespecting her or her people.

Vadra:

  1. Grew up in an imperial orphanage after the death of his parents in a fire apparently set by the Qorsan.
  2. Has published a few papers on military strategy, one of which earned him an imperial medal of achievement.
  3. The closest thing he has to a father-figure is his family’s butler, Juda.

Tulia:

  1. Owns a women-only spa-like establishment for ladies of wealthy families.
  2. Is quite strong for her age, though she doesn’t look it.
  3. Often knows most everything happening in the city because of how much the ladies gossip in her establishment.

Gallus:

  1. The young emperor at the helm of the Empire of Sissa, he has only one good friend that he can trust...
  2. Could destroy someone’s life with a flick of his finger, so many are afraid of him.
  3. Doesn’t like haircuts. Bad memories. His hair is pretty long.

Krig:

  1. Probably the only person in the Empire that can mercilessly tease Gallus and live to tell the tale.
  2. Has a good sense of humour, but often uses it to cover up his shrewd and alert mind.
  3. Particularly adept at collecting intelligence and always knows what’s happening even in the remotest parts of the Empire.

And that's that for this week's roundup! I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit more about my projects!
