Vol. 6 - Juda & Eli

Back with another volume of Character Backstories, and this time around, we're focusing on two VERY different characters from two VERY different books!

Juda (The Pirates of Sissa)

Juda is the man in charge of the Vuur Estate, and carries out the duties of what is essentially a butler. He is elderly when we meet him in the book, and has served the Vuur family for the better part of his life. Because Vadra grew up without his parents due to their unfortunate demise, Juda takes on the role of a father-figure for him, and the two are family.

Juda has no family of his own, having dedicated most of his time to helping and serving others' families. When the chance came for him to have a family of his own, he passed it in favour of staying close to the Vuur Estate and Vadra, who had become orphaned at the time. 

He knows the true goings-on behind the scenes in the Vuur Estate, and is often aware, to some degree, the plans and plots that Vadra and Sahra have gotten themselves into. His presence provides some guidance, but in general he is a gentle, supportive figure who takes care of the two troublemakers.

I'm personally very partial to this character, because he is always a positive force in the story, and it is difficult not to like him. However, I am working out different ways in which his character can have a more pivotal role in the plot, or at the very least in the character development of Vadra and/or Sahra.

Eli (Apartment)

Eli is essentially a (spoiler alert) cult leader. It's implied that he was especially close to Alex, who escaped their "family" after she realized just how corrupt, immoral, and nonsensical it was. Eli enlists the help of the other members of their group to hunt Alex down. 

As a person, Eli is described as being enigmatic and charismatic - and terrifying. He can make those around him do almost anything. He's essentially a silver-tongued devil, and not in any good way. 

Little is known about him before Alex meets him, and little is revealed about him as the story continues, except that he is deeply disturbed and possibly still in love with Alex.
