April 2025 Writing Goals: Pixel Art & Fantasy Political Thrillers (Mmmm!)

April 2025 Writing Goals: Pixel Art & Fantasy Political Thrillers (Mmmm!) By the talented Pikura on Pixabay. I spent March working extremely hard on my horror storytelling course, Zombie March. You could even say I worked... like a zombie. Long nights stretching into morning, step by step, inching towards my goal, until finally--! And here's the obligotary link to the course . If you want to write horror, check it out. (And if you want a discount, my newsletter is that-a-way .)   Now that it's over, I'm taking a week off to enjoy that satisfying lull of a job well done. But my busy mind, which doesn't seem to understand the concept of taking a break, is already speeding down the Next Project Highway. So, in an attempt to humor myself, I decided to make a post about my goals for this month. Will I stick to them? My track record says no, but my brain says Absolutely!    ( I would err on the side of my track record. My golden retriever brain gets too excited, and too ...

Senscape's ASYLUM: Insanity as Vulnerability and Shield, and Inescapable Fate

Image
Screenshot from the game, ASYLUM (2025). Senscape's ASYLUM : Insanity as Vulnerability or Shield, and Inescapable Fate A Story Analysis a la Zombie March Senscape's latest game release, ASYLUM , came out in mid-March. Since then, a huge number of loyal Senscape fans have played the game and have come out with their own thoughts and interpretations of the Lovecraftian horror. Theories abound in the bustling Senscape Discord community and on Steam forums, and I'm sure in a range of different online communities as well. ASYLUM has been fresh in my mind for the last couple of weeks, percolating, simmering beneath the surface, while I go about my daily life. A part of me considered adding a last-minute case study to my horror writing course discussing some facet of the game - perhaps its application of the cosmic horror genre, or the way in which the game developers approached the concept of insanity - but thought better of it, on account of the fact that I wasn't entirely...

Q: What scenes are most difficult for you to write?

Q: What scenes are most difficult for you to write? Originally received via tumblr . Answer: My first immediate reaction was: Romantic scenes. I'm not sure what it is about romance, but it's something that I personally struggle with writing a lot. I don't think it's a technical issue - it's more of an emotional obstacle somewhere in there that I have to deal with. Every now and then I do end up having to have a romantic scene (like in Chapter 1 of The City of Light ), but they're always easily the part of the story that I feel least confident about. I'm getting over it though! I'm currently exploring the different ways that I feel comfortable writing romance, and trying to find a process and portrayal that feels right for me. On a technical level, though, I think the most challenging scenes for me tend to be high-paced scenes where lots of people are doing lots of different things in what should be a very compressed period of time. It needs to move quick...

March Madness: March 2025 Writing Update

Image
Hello Spring!   March Madness: March 2025 Writing Update What a month it has been! Between Ramadan, Zombie March , The City of Light , and a couple of other projects , this past month has been busy, busy, busy. March madness is real!  Zombie March Horror Writing Course I'm still running off the high of launching the first run of my horror writing course, Zombie March, which opened for enrollment last night . This labor of love and passion has been, for me, a huge step forward. It's my first ever online course, and through it I have shown myself that I can design a full curriculum, craft its content and materials, and publish it online for fellow writers or authors of horror fiction to enjoy. By the way, if you want a big discount on the course, subscribe to the newsletter . March's edition of the newsletter has a nice, chunky coupon code 😜 This process has also shown me different ways to present my courses and educational programmes. While Zombie March functions in a trad...

The Black Hare: Log #3

Image
The Black Hare Log #3 This was originally posted on tumblr on 17 December, 2024. It’s been a little while since I updated about this IF, and I do want to apologize for completely missing my intended Prologue release at end of November. It coincided with some health-related issues (for me and a family member), and I actually ended up missing a lot of other deadlines for the rest of the month, which I’m still trying to make up for, including certain other projects slated for February and March 2025 releases. I know there are some lovely folks out there who were really looking forward to it, and I’m sorry to disappoint and delay! I can’t tell you exactly when the Prologue will be out now, but I can say that if I do want to get it out sooner rather than later, it will be released in parts, route by route. With that said, let’s get into the latest update! Current status: The game has approx 38k words & 232 passages so far. Still working on the Prologue! Focusing on user expe...
